Booking and your first visit

Choose a date and time on our Book Appointment page. Our team will confirm your booking, usually within 24 hours, and prepare everything for your visit.
You will see Dr. Matwa Christopher, the founder of Truffel Healthcare. He is a consultant plastic, reconstruction and aesthetic surgeon, registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Dr. Matwa talks through your goals and checks the areas you want treated, including your skin quality. He tells you which procedure suits you and what your recovery will involve. Blood tests and a general health check are done before a surgery date is set.
Yes. All consultations at Truffel Healthcare are kept private and confidential.
Good candidates are in good general health, do not smoke or are willing to stop, and have realistic expectations. For body contouring such as a tummy tuck, you should also be at or near your goal weight and have kept it steady for 3-6 months. Dr. Matwa confirms this at your consultation.
We do plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the breast, body and face, from liposuction and tummy tucks to rhinoplasty and facelifts. Other surgical specialties are coming soon. You can see the full list under Services in the menu.

Surgery and anaesthesia

Yes. The centre is fully equipped for day-case surgery and aftercare, with its own nurses, healthcare assistants, aftercare massage therapists and theatre technicians. Surgery and aftercare are all under one roof.
It depends on the procedure. Larger procedures such as breast augmentation and rhinoplasty are done under general anaesthesia. Smaller ones, such as upper eyelid surgery or small-area liposuction, can be done under local anaesthesia.
You feel no pain during surgery because you are under anaesthesia. Afterwards most people feel mild to moderate discomfort and tightness for the first few days, which is controlled with prescribed pain relief.
Often, yes. After breast augmentation or small-area liposuction, most patients go home the same day. Bigger procedures need a short stay, for example Lipo-360 involves a 2-3 day admission (see the liposuction page).
Often, yes. Where operating time and safety allow, procedures are done together in one session with one combined recovery. If a combination would take too long, Dr. Matwa may split it into two sessions for your safety (see the Mommy Makeover page).
Any surgery leaves a scar, but Dr. Matwa places cuts in natural skin folds or where underwear and clothing cover them. Most scars fade to a pale, flat line over 12-18 months.

Recovery and aftercare

Our team offers lymphatic massage, compression garments, ultrasonic cavitation, IV vitamin drips, dressing changes and follow-up reviews with Dr. Matwa. Your aftercare plan is made for your procedure and explained in full before surgery (see the Aftercare page).
It usually starts in the early days after surgery and is most intensive in the first 10 to 21 days, when it does the most to reduce swelling.
Usually for up to 10 weeks, depending on your procedure and how you heal. After liposuction, for example, it is worn day and night for the first 2-4 weeks, then during the day only for another 2-4 weeks.
It depends on the procedure. After small-area liposuction under local anaesthesia, most people return to light activities within 2-5 days, and after an arm lift they are back at desk work within 1-2 weeks. After a facelift, most return to work by 3-4 weeks.
Gentle walking is encouraged early on to help your circulation. Heavy lifting and hard exercise wait several weeks, until Dr. Matwa clears you at a follow-up visit.
Yes. Dr. Matwa sees you for scheduled reviews to check your healing and adjust your aftercare, with the first visit usually in the first week after surgery.
